About Elizabeth
Well known as a composer of piano music, Elizabeth Greenleaf has had numerous pieces published by The FJH Music Company (www.fjhmusic.com). Clavier Magazine has described her works variously as "imaginative" and "haunting" and as having "appealing melodies", "interesting sounds" and "delightful lyrics." Her works have also been recognized by the Music Teachers' Association of California and many of her pieces have been chosen by the National Federation of Music Clubs for performance at their Festivals. Her most recent composition is Music for Metamorphoses, which was a commission from the Auburn University Theatre Department for their April, 2007, production of Mary Zimmerman's play Metamorphoses. Music for Metamorphoses has been nominated for a Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Award.
Elizabeth received a Bachelor of Music degree in composition from The Florida State University, where she studied composition with John Boda and Harold Schiffman. Also at FSU, she earned a Piano Teaching Certificate while studying piano with Lloyd Gold. She received a Master of Music degree in piano performance from Louisiana State University, studying piano with Milton Hallman.
Active as a composer, performer, and teacher for many years, she has performed recitals both as an accompanist for instrumentalists and singers and as a chamber music player. She performed many concerts with the chamber music group Winds and Ivories, and at Northwestern University accompanied the workshop of her husband Robert's opera Under The Arbor. She has worked as a church pianist and choir director, and taught private piano lessons for 25 years.
